Which kind of editing does your manuscript need?
Different kinds of editing answer different questions about a manuscript.
Structure: does the whole book work?
Developmental editing looks at the larger picture: organisation, narrative, pacing, argument and what the reader needs next.
Sentences: is the writing clear and consistent?
Copyediting focuses on language and consistency after larger changes are settled. The exact scope should be agreed in advance.
Final pages: what has slipped through?
Proofreading is a final check after the text and layout are close to finished. It is not a substitute for structural editing.
